CHICAGO (January 9, 2014) – Steppenwolf Theatre Company is pleased to announce the line-up for Late Night @ Garage Rep, a series of cross-genre performances Thursday nights during Garage Rep 2014. The line-up includes a performance by the play with music, Duo: 1 Is 1, 2 Is Math. Duo is the I Do! I Do! for the new century. Starring Chicago veteran actors Suzanne Petri and Roger Anderson, the story follows a couple from their first meeting to their marriage, and through the ups and downs of their relationship as they move through their life together, growing, moving, changing, through difficult times and life's lessons until they discover why they stuck, “Together.” They are funny and moving and human. This sophisticated yet approachable play by Bill C. Thomas and directed by Steppenwolf ensemble member Robert Breuler, is filled with new and affecting music composed by Elizabeth Doyle. Duo is a new work that appeals to everyone from the young couples starting out to couples that are in the middle years-the difficult time in a relationship that is everyday yet long lasting. The story comes alive with insight, intelligence and wit.

Performances

Our new musical Duo: 1 Is 1; 2 Is Math had a 2 performance run at the Box Factory for the Arts in Michigan as well as a very successful 2 performance run at The Steppenwolf Upstairs Theatre on August 6th and 7th 2011. These performances were partially supported by a grant from the Illinois Arts Council, a State Agency.

And our most recent success: DUO was selected to perform “Duo” at Steppenwolf’s Late Night at Garage Rep on March 13th! In 2012, Steppenwolf introduced Late Night as an exciting addition to Garage Rep programs. Following Garage Rep performances, Late Night acts range from dance parties to award-winning slam poets to post-punk and classical music collaborations, in a late-night party atmosphere. Late Night also harkens back to an old Steppenwolf tradition: beginning in 1981, in the theater at Jane Addams Hull-House, the company produced risky and edgy work in their “Late Night Shows,” which included the provocative La Ronde, Christopher Durang’s ‘dentity Crisis, and Sam Shepard and Patti Smith’s Cowboy Mouth.
